SCHOOL FAREWELL
HEADMISTRESS RETIRES
One of the largest gatherings held in Houghton Valley took place on Thursday evening, when Miss J. G. Park, headmistress of the school since 1931, was given a farewell party on the eve of her retirement. Many old pupils were present, including parents who as children she taught a number of years ago. Mr. J. C. Sinclair, chairman of the school committee, and Messrs. D. J. King and C. W. Huxford, made reference to the outstanding work rendered by Miss Park for the children, particularly during the depression years. The items arranged by the old pupils were in themselves a great tribute to her training. , Presentations from the school committee, the Home and School Association, the old pupils, and the residents of the district were made. Miss Park replied, saying she had derived a great deal of pleasure from her work at Houghton Valley, and although not for the future in an official capacity, her interests would still remain with the school she had so much at heart.
