WEDDING

WESTON—SMITH.

Friends of Miss Barbara Helen Smith, daughter of Mrs. Douglas Lumsden, Auckland, and the late Mr E. W. J. Smith, of Levin, will be interested to learn of her wedding to Thomas Guy Weston, of White Rock, British Columbia, which was solemnised at All Saints' Church, Palmerston North, on May 9, 1944. During the ceremony and festivities which followed the bride wore a gown of maize-tinted georgette. Her coronet of orange blossom secured an embroidered tulle veil which had been worn by the bride's mother at her wedding. A sheaf of deep cream roses completed her ensemble. The bridesmaids were Misses Cynthia Wilson, Beulah Meiklejohn (Palmerston North), and Lorraine Remington (Auckland). They wore gowns of Florida sky heavy crepe, which were designed an similar lines to that worn by the bride, and their bouquets of deep crimson roses, gerberas, and maidenhair fern matched the top knots worn on their hair. A single string of pearls was the only jewellery worn by each bridesmaid. The best man was Mr. Alan Pypus, of Auckland, and the groomsmen, Mr. Ross Smith (brother of the bride) and Mr. Norman Harle Giles, of Mairoa. The bride was given away by her step-father, Mr. D. Lumsden, and the ceremony was conducted by Rev. Canon Woodward. During the signing of the register Mesdames Niven and Bigham sang "Oh, Perfect Love." After the ceremony over 100 guests were received at the Rosco tearooms by Mrs. Lumsden. The newly-married couple are now residing at Mangaotahi, where they have taken over the duties of the school. Mrs. Arthur Grenfell, of England, who is at present visiting Wellington in her capacity as vice-president of the • World's Y.W.C.A., visited the Woburn hostels for women war workers yesterday afternoon. The hostels are administered by the Y.W.C.A., and Mrs Grenfel] was conducted over the buildings by Mrs. D.A. Ewen, chairman of the hostels' committee. Mr. and Mrs. R. Fox, New Plymouth, -are visiting Wellington and are stayin p at Saves Court.
