HOW THE LINE RUNS
Rec. 11.15 a.m.
RUGBY, July 11,
Advances on all parts of the Normandy front are reported from Allied Supreme Headquarters. Near Caen the Canadians advanced to the west bank of the Orne and captured Louvigny, two miles south-west of Caen. They consolidated their positions in this area, where the line extends to the woods north-east of Maltot. East of Caen Allied troops also made a satisfactory advance. From Colombelles, three miles north-east of Caen, troops pushed along the east bank of the Orne about a mile. From there the line runs to a wood at Saint Honorine, four miles north-east of Caen.
South-west of Caen the British threw back repeated counter-attacks on Hill 112. They retain possession of this height, with a road junction to the north-east and Eterville.
Between Onchy and Hottot our troops advanced about half a mile on a -two-mile front south-west of Tilly.
In the Carentan area United States forces widened their positions and are now a mile west of Sainteny. They also pushed south to capture La Maugerie and La Roserie, four miles northeast of Periers. They also took Haut Verny and Lemesnir Angout. Patrols •pushed on to Tribehou, which was found to be strongly held by the enemy. This place stands on an island of rising ground in the marshes four miles south-east of Sainteny and five miles west of St. Jean-de-Daye.
United States forces made a further advance south of La Haye along the Lessay road, and captured Mobecqa, a mile and a half south-east of La Haye. All the high ground of the forest of Mont Castre is in the hands of United State troops, who are now on its southern slopes.—B.O.W.
