WELCOMED BY THE POPE

LONDON, July 10. The Pope yesterday received at the Vatican City Prince Bernard of Holland, writes a correspondent in Rome. On Sunday he held an audience attended by nearly 4.0"00 British" troops and welcomed them to Rome.

Addressing the soldiers, the Pope said: "While we thank God for the special protection granted Rome, we do not forget that your loved country is one of those lands that have known too well the desolation and suffering, of war-. We have prayed for it, and ask, God to bless it and all your dear ones' waiting at home."
