TAXI TRANSFERS
SERVICEMEN APPLICANTS
The Wellington Licensing Authority has found that there are quite a few complications, in wartime, •in the normally simple business of giving permission for taxicab transfers, for the extent to which preference should be given to ex-servicemen over civilians, and the comparative weights of claims from ex-servicemen from Overseas and servicemen with home service only, have been argued at very great length. Yesterday afternoon the authority approved three of the applications, in which ex-servicemen were concerned, but could not make positive headway in two other cases, where the applicants were men without active service. It deferred them to a later date,' hoping that in the meantime the car owners will1 follow its proposal, that they endeavour to dispose of their taxis to two new buyers, who shall be ex-servicemen with clear claims for rehabilitation preference. The transfers approved were: L. J. Jones to L. V. Edhouse; S. M. Morgan to V. C. Jacobs; R. L. Anderson to F. H. Davis.
