TORNADO IN U.S.A.

139 DEATHS REPORTED

Rec. 9 a.m. NEW YORK, June 24. A tornado which swept through the States of Pennsylvania and West Virginia last night, rooting up trees and causing houses to collapse, caused 139 deaths nnd injured nearly 1000 people. Weary rescuers are still searching for victims. The damage is conservatively estimated at 5,000,000 dollars. Some families were completely wiped out. Whole districts were virtually devastated by the storm, which struck so rapidly that buildings appeared to explode, railways cars were lifted bodily from the rails, and railway lines'are twisted masses of steel. The body of one woman was taken from a tree 100 yards from her home.
