YOUNG FIRE VICTIMS
FUNERAL LARGELY ATTENDED
The extent of the public sympathy with the family was shown by the large attendance on Saturday afternoon at the funeral of John and Janet Ewart, children of Surgeon Lieu-tenant-Commander lan B. Ewart, who lost their lives in a fire at their home in Abel Smith Street on Thursday night. St. Peter's Church, Willis Street, where the service was held, was filled, and people lined the streets outside. Beautiful floral tributes completely filled the vestibule. Among those in the congregation were representatives of Queen Margaret College and Wellesley College, where the children were scholars, the Navy, the medical profession, and maternity hospitals,l with which Dr. Ewart has been closely associated. The service was conducted by the Bishop of Wellington, the Kt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, and the vicar of St. Peter's, the Yen. Archdeacon Bullock. It opened with the singing of Psalm 23, "The Lord is My Shepherd." Archdeacon Bullock read the lesson, from St. Mark, chapter 10, "And they brought young children to Htm, that He should touch them: and ' His disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not: for of such is the Kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And He took them up in His arms, put His hands'upon them, and blessed them." The hymn, "Jesu, meek and gentle," was sung, after which the Bishop led the congregation in prayer. Pall-bearers were Sergeant Donald Mathieson. Dr. E. Corkill, Dr. L. Levy, Dr. J. F. Zohrab, Dr.'E. Luke Mr W E. Leicester, Mr. Geoffrey Shirtcliffe, Mr. B. Webster,
The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. A. Charles.
