MR. FRASER IN CAIRO

TO INSPECT N.Z. UNITS Rec. 12.50 p.m. LONDON, June 4. Mr. Peter Fraser arrived in Cairo by air from Italy. He will have discussions- with the British and Allied authorities in the Middle East and will make a complete inspection of New Zealand units based in the Mediterranean theatre.

B.M.A. ATTACKED * ' LABOUR LEADER & RATIONS SYDNEY, June 3. Expectant mothers in Australia will continue to receive a full butter ration of eight ounces a week, it has been announced by the Acting Prime Minister, Mr. F. M. Forde. To receive their full ration expectant mothers must register with the Rationing Commission. The civilian butter ration will be cut from Monday, which • marks the beginning of the third year of Australian rationing of commodities. The War Cabinet will consider applying a reduced ration to servicemen not en 7 gaged in operational areas. The reduction of the general ration from eight to six ounces was an inconvenience rather than a privation, declared Mr. F. M. Forde. Ample dripping and commercially produced cook-, ing fat were available to supplement the butter ration. . Commenting on the B.M.A.'s criticism of civilian food shortages, Mr. Forde said the B.M.A. should foster public morale instead of undermining it. "I ask all patriotic Australians to : accept the temporary reduction in the butter ration, and to ignore attempts to have the reduction discontinued," he added.
