CLOTHES COUPONS

NEXT SIX MONTHS

DETAILS ANNOUNCED

The Food and Rationing Controller (Mr. J. E. Thomas) announced today the release of clothing coupons for the six-monthly period commencing June 1, as follows:— ■ Clothing coupons Nos. 21 to 40 available for clothing, household linen, and khaki wool, but not for other wools. M _•' •■■_ zz- "' • Wool coupons Nos. 4, 5, and 6, ana clothing coupon No. 24 available for wool or clothing, including baby wool. Household linen coupons Nos. 4 to 6 available for household linen only. All people living in hotels, board-ing-houses, apartment-houses, institutions, and the resident staff in hospitals,' where linen is provided, are required to hand the household linen coupons Nos. 4 to 6 to the • proprietor, who must forward them to the Rationing Controller, Wellington, not later than the end of June. Failure ■ to send the coupons in will mean that further permits for household linen will not be issued to the establishments concerned, v '■'.'•■ MORE WOOL. "This is the normal half-yearly ■ release of clothing coupons," said. Mr. Thomas, "but consequent on the improving position of wool supplies there are three important changes in the availability of coupons. The first is that baby wool previously available only on baby wool coupons may now be purchased against all wool coupons. The second alteration is an increase in the number of wool coupons from three to four. This is effected by giving clothing coupon No. 24 the same, value as a wool coupon. The four coupons are each valid for four ounces, thus giving, a total of 16 ounces of wool in each book for the next six months. The third is in regard to khaki wool. The heavy stocks of this class of wool has made it advisable to transfer this item from the 'wool' coupons to the 'clothing' coupons. In future khaki wool may be purchased against clothing coupons at the rate of four ounces per coupon."

The effect of the announcement, Mr. Thomas explained, is that the full issue of 52 coupons for clothing, wool, and household linen in the current ration book is now available for use until further notice.
