A flight of Boston attack bombers bombed Japanese ships off the Wewak coast of New Guinea, and another flight behind them flew through debris thrown up by exploding cargoes.. During a routine inspection later in the day, a ship's register was found lodged behind an engine cylinder of one of the following aircraft. It had been issued by the British Corporation Register of Shipping and Aircraft on November 30, 1936, and certified, that the Taiyei Maru, of 3221 tons, was "fit to carry dry and perishable cargoes."
