HEALTH BENEFITS

NEW DIRECTOR APPOINTED

The appointment of Dr. Duncan Cook, Medical Officer of Health, Palmerston North, to the position of Director, Division of Health Benefits in the head office of the Health Department, was announced today by the Minister of Health (Mr. Nordmeyer). This appointment was previously held by Dr. F. S. Maclean, whose transfer to other duties had caused the vacancy. Dr. Cook will be responsible for the administration of that part of the Social Security Act administered by the Minister of Health. Dr. Cook first joined the Health Department in 1930, when he was appointed Medical Officer or Health, Dunedin. In 1932 he was transferred to a similar position at Whangarei, and in 1938 to Falmerston North. Prior to joining the Department, Dr. Cook had considerable experience in private practice.
