AXIS PUPPETS WARNED PUN4SBMENT IN STORE ; Rec. 11 a.m. RUGBY, May 12. On the eve of their grand assault on Germany the three major Allied Powers have issued a stern, warning to the satellites of the Axis. Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria, and Finland are warned to change sides while there is time or take the consequences. The declaration, which is issued by the Governments of Britain,, Russia, and the United States, says: "Through the fatal policy of their leaders the people of Hungary are suffering the humiliation of German occupation. Rumania is still bound to the Nazis in a war which is now bringing devastation to its own people. : "The Governments of Bulgaria and Finland have placed their countries in the service of Germany and, remain !ia the war at Germany's side. The 1 Governments of Britain, Russia, and the United States think it right that these people should realise the; fol- '. lowing facts:— . "Firstly, the satellites of the "Axis, Hungary, Rumania,. Bulgaria, and.. F. in-

land, despite their realisation of the inevitability of a crushing Nazi defeat and their desire ;to get out of, the war, are, by their present, policies and attitude, contributing materially to the strength of the German war machine. COULD SHORTEN WAR. "Secondly, these nations still have ;it within. their power,, by withdrawing from the war and ceasing col- '■ laboration. with Germany,, and by resisting the forces of Nazism by every possible means, to- shorten the. European struggle,, diminish their'own ultimate sacrifices, and contribute to an Allied victory. "Thirdly, while these nations cannot escape responsibility for haying participated in the war at the side of Nazi Germany, the longer they continue at war in collaboration with Germany the more disastrous will be the : consequences to them and the ' more : rigorous will be the terms which will be imposed on them. "Fourthly, these nations must, there- . ; fore decide now"" while yet there is ' 'time for them to contribute to the inevitable Allied victory, whether they intend to persist in their present hopeless and calamitous riolicy of opposing that victory."—B.O.W.
