BOMBERS OVER BRITAIN
Rec. 10 am. LONDON, April 27. German planes last night bombed three towns on the south coast. A bomb hit a shelter in one town, causing many casualties. Raiders were also over the south-east coast, and some flew inland. London had two brief alerts, but no incidents. Two raiders were shot down. The German news agency says that German heavy bombers last night attacked concentrations on the south cosst of England, particularly Portsmouth. Rec. 11.20 a.m. RUGBY, April 27. It is now known that an enemy aircraft was destroyed over Britain last night when it collided with a trainer aircraft, making three enemy planes destroyed over Britain during the night.—B.O.W. "Had I been addressing you on industry instead of economic stabilisation, I could have pointed to this city as the best example in the Dominion of what can happen when industry is given a chance to expand," said Mr. C. V. Smith (Dunedin), immediate past president 6f the New Zealand Manufacturers.' Federation, when speaking at a meeting of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry last night. "Conversely, if in the post-war years there is any widespread closing down of industry, this city must be vitally affected, reverting then from an industrial centre to simply an overflow for Wellington's congested residential areas."
