Educated at Hataitai School, Wellington College, and Victoria and Canterbury University Colleges, he had a distinguished scholastic career. While at Wellington College he won a Junior National Scholarship and a Turnbull Scholarship, and he graduated from Canterbury College as a Bachelor of Science. He also passed his examination for A.M.I.CE. and

fered by the. Institution of Civil Engineers, England, and is competed for throughout the world. He was a civil engineer in the Public Works Department in private life. While at Canterbury College he was a prominent member of the hockey and harrier clubs, and he was also a keen member of the Paremata Sailing Club. His mother is Mrs. F. Hornig, who resides at Golden Gate, Paremata.
