MANY PLACES ISOLATED

P.A. : NAPIER, March 8. The main road between Napier and Hastings is how open to all traffic, but the/Pakowhai route is still closed and it is possible that it will not be reopened before tomorrow. The rainfall records received from various quarters suggest that the heavy fall. followed something like a set course, with the heaviest falls in the north and dropping considerably as they reached the south. The following figures give the amount of rain recorded since Saturday: Wairoa, 4.98 inches; Kotemaori, 10.33; Rissirigton, 17.03; Eskdale, 11.30; Napier, 5.68; Hastings, 3.42. A remarkable variance in the rain has also been recorded in each locality. For instance,, while 11.3 inches was recorded by Hedgley Station, Eskdale, over 14 inches was recorded at Conways, which is nearby, and 20 inches at Aymes, which is also very close. At Kereru, too, over 12 inches was recorded, while at Hastings less than four inches was registered. Many\areas are still completely isolated. ' A plane from Napier dropped five bags of mail at Wairoa today. This was the first mail received since Saturday. Mail was also dropped from the plans to several settlers on the route between Napier and Wairoa.
