"MONOPOLISTIC"
The people of New Zealand did not understand the ramifications of those "gigantic, monopolistic concerns," which fattened on the hard work of 'the people and used the profits for further exploitation, said Mr. F. Langstone (Government, Waimarino) in the Address-in-Reply debate in the House Of Representatives last evening. '• His criticism was directed at what lie described as the "sacred rights of private enterprise," mentioning particularly the insurance companies and quoting what was received in premiums and paid out in claims. He included the State Fire Office, which* he said,-was made a smoke-screen and stool-pigeon for other insurance -companies. If the State Fire Office; functioned' as it should function it; would be giving the people a service-and noi extracting- tremendous premiums frorr. themand lending-it,back again.
