MINERS' SLOW-DOWN
FIRM ACTION AT DURHAM
Rec. 1 p.m. RUGBY, March 6. The Ministry of Fuel and Power has taken firm action against coal miners at the Easington colliery at Durham, where it is stated that the weekly output has been reduced since January 29 from 15,300 tons to 6500 "Seven hundred and thirty-four men," says the Ministry statement, "have been given 14 days' notice to determine their employment at this colliery, and that they will be directed by the Ministry of Labour and National' Service to other Durham collieries where: the output per coalgetter is far in excess of these low figures." ' ."'' . : The statement adds: "The direction of these 734 men is only the first stage, and will be followed by the direction of other men employed at the .: Easington colliery unless the 'canny' policy is abandoned."—B.O.W.
