P.A. INVERCARGILL, March 1. Subject to the Government granting the necessary legislation, the Invercargill City Council is prepared to carry on temporarily control of the sale of liquor in the city as from June 30 till the wishes of the people are ascertained by a referendum, which should be taken at the earliest possible date. The council is not in accord with the postponement of the status of the
Invercargill electorate as a No Licence area till September. A resolution 'on these lines was carried today at a special meeting of the council and members of the committee for the municipal ownership and control of the hotels.
