JAPANESE JITTERS

THE RAID ON THE KURILES

NEW YORK, February 7,

Vichy radio quoted a Japanese communique as saying that Americans have landed on the Kurile Islands.

"The enemy's raid on < the Kurile Islands must not be regarded lightly," says the official Tokio radio. "The enemy's offensive throughout the Pacific is about to be strengthened another step. Tokio is only eleven hours from the Marshalls by the enemy's Flying Fortresses. The Pacific war situation is becoming more serious."
