Rabaul? in /New-Britain, and Lorengau, in IKe A'dmju-alfcyirsSands, for the second successive day have been the main targets for General Mac Arthur s smashing aerial offensive. The Japanese lost 32 more aircraft definitely destroyed, while enemy shipping and installations suffered heavily.
Medium bombers with a fighter escort attacked Lorengau and Momote aerodromes, destroying eight nghters which were caught on the ground. They also set fire to a freighter and.a number of barges in Lorengau harbour Three of our planes were lost. Aircraft based on the Solomons again attacked Rabaul, inflicting great damage. Five cargo ships and an oil tanker were-sunk, while two other vessels were beached following direct hits. Of 60 intercepting Zeros 24 were shot down and four others were probably destroyed. Our losses are described as "extraordinarily light."
