ROMAN NOBILITY.
ADDRESS BY THE. POPE
LONDON, January 20. Addressing Roman nobility at a special audience, the Pope said:-r "Whoever has considered and pondered over the past cannot deny that the evil that has come about could have been avoided had each carried on. his duties in accordance with divine providence. Your task is to help to restore the normal • functioning of human machinery. You represent a tradition which is much more than simply a link with the past. Tradition means progress. You live in modern society, go among people, and listen to their praise and condemnation, and feel their scars with your own hands. Let your hearts feel the ache that is throbbing in theirs."
