BUTTER PRODUCTION
Sir,—On the subject of production, rationing, etc., and to show how our farmers are harassed by' Government regulations, I should like to quote a few lines from a letter recently received from a sister of mine in the Taranaki district. She says (inter alia): "We have been milking three cows, making a fair quantity of butter each week, and selling most of it. A week or so ago our grocer told us he had had orders from the manager to buy no more dairy butter. So there you are. After being told by the Government not to sell to private customers, or give butter away, but to sell surplus to our grocer, the grocer won't take it. Consequently, out goes one cow this week and another later. They call that rationing, actually, it is lowering production." The above needs no comment. —I am, etc.; A FAIR COW.
