OBITUARY
MR. EDGAR SWAIN
The death occurred at Waipawa yesterday of a pioneer settler, Mr. Edgar Swain, aged 82. Born in London, he went to the United States, and was working on the Texas beef trail at 15.. He came to New Zealand and began farming in the Rangitikei, next conducting a coaching service in MidCanterbury. It later years he. lived in retirement at Waipawa. His wife is the oldest music teacher in New Zealand, a distinction she formerly shared with the late Mr. Robert Parker. Besides his wife, who is 78, Mr. Swain is survived by a daughter, Miss Dulcie Swain, of Waipawa, and three sons, Mr. E. W. Swain, Wellington, Mr. N. Swain, R.N.Z.A.F., and Mr. L. H. Swain, 2nd N.Z.E.F. (Pacific).
