DIG FOR VICTORY

VEGETABLE EXHIBITION The Dig for Victory Bureau is organising intensively in the preparation of lay-out of the Town Hall for the vegetable and flower show to be held from February 9 to 11. This exhibition gives promise of being the biggest one ever held in the Dominion. Entries have been promised from far and near, including a bumper one representing the work of the various R.N.Z. Air Force stations. A number of schools will enter vegetables, and will also take part in the gladiolus competition. Further interest has been aroused among school children by the special competition for named weeds. An interesting aspect of the exhibition will be the instructions about planting out and sowing technique to be adopted with vegetables that must be planted now if adequate supplies are to be maintained during the coming winter. Hints and tips on the sowing of brussels sprouts, leeks, Savoy -winter cabbage, turnips, cauliflowers, etc., will be given. There is nothing difficult about entering "backyard" produce on February 8. All the entrant has to do is to collect a form at the exhibition bureau, fill it in, and then on February 8 deliver the exhibit or arrange for it to be handed in at the Town Hall. The [ committee will take over the arranging of each exhibit to the best advantage. Over £200 has been donated towards the prize list, and the full schedule of classes and prizes is now available from the bureau free of charge- ■
