CHILE AND AXIS FIRMS
Rec 10 a.m. NEW YORK, Jan. 16. The Chilean Government has issued a decree calling for the imposition of strict controls on business houses, banks, and insurance companies controlled by the Axis in Chile, reports the Associated Press correspondent at Santiago. The tremendous economic powfer of these organisations, which are chiefly German, has long constituted a problem in Chiles efforts to co-operate completely with the United Nations. . • The decree is regarded in diplomatic circles as a most effective step in crushing the spearheads of_ Axis economic propaganda and espionage activities in Chile.
