ATTACKS IN AEGEAN SEA
MIDDLE EAST AIRCRAFT Rec. 12.30 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 16. In the past few days Middle East aircraft have added to their previous successes against shipping attempting to supply enemy-occupied islands an the Aegean area, states a Middle East air communique. On January 13 escort vessels and two luggers were attacked north-east of Hydra, in the Western Aegean, 'and left on fire and out of control. Two launches off Mykenos, in the southwest Aegean, were attacked, and one caught fire. . . On the same day shipping m Rhodes harbour and gunposts and enemy troops in the vicinity were attacked. On January 14 four sailing ships m the harbour on Paroa Island were bombed. When our aircraft left a large fire was burning, a pall of smoke obscuring the ships. , . On Saturday a series of low-flying attacks was made on sailing vessels in the harbour at Paros and _ Amergos ; Islands, and at sea near Senphos and Anaphi Islands. Seven large vessels were damaged, and one was left sinking and another in flames. A formation of Me 109's made several attacks on our aircraft without result.
