For attempting to steal petrol Daniel James Haggerty, 26, a mechanic, was placed on probation for one year by Mr. W. C, Harley, S.M., at Lower Hutt yesterday. A condition is that he will not be allowed to drive a car during that period. Senior-Detective W. McLennan said that Haggerty had previous convictions, and that the worst feature in the case was that he had led two youths into trouble.
