REHABILITATION WORK
Lists of firms in the Hutt and Petone area who can employ "B" class trainees (adult apprenticss) will be prepared by the Lower Hutt, Petone, and Eastern Bays Rehabilitation Committee, it was decided at a meeting of the committee recently. A recommendation ,was also made that as far as possible technical training of returned men be carried out at the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College. The secretary (Captain E. S. Summers) reported as follows: —Increase for November, 212> total personnel administered by the committee,. 1129; cases handled by sub-committees, financial assistance 18, farming applications 6, trade training 2,' educational assistance 14, under action 448. The proposed boundaries between the Upper. Hutt committee area and the Lower Hutt-Petone and Eastern Bays area were agreed upon, the northern boundary of Lower Hutt area being at the Silverstream bridge. ■ A special meeting of the finance, farming, and trade training committees was held. At the meeting were 12 Army officers for instruction, prior to returning to war areas as Army educational officers, and also acting as liaison officers for the Rehabilitation Department. Four of these officers are to become Maori rehabilitation officers. Fifteen cases were dealt with by the finance sub-committee, and the trade training sub-committee dealt with six cases. The farming committee heard one applicant for a loan to purchase a farm. The case was referred to the Combined WellingtonHutt farming committee, with a favourable recommendation.
