Water for the City.

On the question of additional water supplies for the city the Mayor (Mr. Hislop) stated at last night's meeting of the City Council that the Minister of Works (Mr. Semple) had now set up a committee to go into the big scheme that had been put forward. The committee consisted of certain of the Minister's officers, the City Engineer and Town Clerk, and technical members, and was preparing and should have ready soon an initial scheme, which was envisaged as a joint scheme of the Government and the council. When the initial scheme was ready it would be submitted for the necessary financial provision.
