BANKING IN AUSTRALIA
CANBERRA, December 16.
The Australian Labour Party conference today requested the Government to carry; out Labour's policy for the nationalisation of. banking. It is believed the Government will legislate to give the Commonwealth permanently the same power over private banks as "it has under the wartime regulations. Such legislation, however, may not be introduced till after the war. The conference also carried a motion that it was of. the opinion that all transport services should be nationalised at an early date. .. The president, Mr. Fallon, gave a ruling that this motion placed no obligation upon the Government but was merely an expression of opinion by the conference.
