FOUR AIR AWARDS

GISBORNE PILOT

HEADS NEW ZEALAND LIST

Acting Wing Commander Colin Falkland Gray, D.5.0., D.F.C. and double Bar, R-AJF., Gisborne, now tops the roll of honour for British awards made to New Zealanders on active service overseas. He received the second Bar to his D.F.C. recently.

Other New Zealand flyers have been four or, more times decorated in this war, but none wear so great a row of British ribbons as Wing Commander Gray, his multi-decorated contempor-

Aries having received British decorations and those of othei-s of the Allies. Wing' Commander Gray's second Bar is the first award of its kind to be made to a New Zealander, while his four awards bring the total of air awards won by the Gray family to six for two brothers, his twin brother, the late Pilot Officer Kenneth T il Gray, having held the Distinguish^ Flying Cross and the Czech War Cross.

"Since being awai'ded the Distinguished Service Order, Wing Commander Gray has destroyed a further five enemy aircraft, bringing his victories to 27 aircraft destroyed," states the citation to his latest decoration.- "He is an exceptionally able pilot and leader, and has completed a long and arduous tour of operations and discharged his duties in the air and on-the ground in an exemplary and highly praiseworthy manner."
