THEFT OF PETROL

Stated by Detective-Sergeant E. H. Compton to have been caught in the act of stealing seven gallons of petrol from United States service vehicles, Colin Arthur Nolan, engineer, 18 (Mr. J. A. Scott), who pleaded guilty, was admitted to probation for one year by Mr. W. C. Harley, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The Magistrate said the usual penalty fo:r such an offence was a month's gaol, but it was the accused's first offence and the probation officer recommended probation. V Conditions of the probation were that Nolan must not own any motor vehicle and must not hold a driver's licence during the term.
