The Hon. Adam Hamilton returned to Wellington today from Auckland.

Mr. C. L. Hunter, Conciliation Commissioner, arrived from Auckland today.

Colonel A. Ebbs, chief secretary of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, who is shortly being transferred to Australia, was presented by his fel-low-Rotarians yesterday with Mr. members for their kindness-, Colonel Johannes Andersen's book on Maori music as a parting gift. Thanking Ebbs said he deemed it a privilege to be a Rotarian.

A Press Association cablegram from Canberra states that Mr. W. C. Hankinson, Principal Secretary in the United Kingdom Office in Dublin, has been appointed Deputy High Commissioner, for the United Kingdom in Australia. Mr. M. E. Aritrobus, Official Secretary in the United Kingdom Office in Australia, is being transferred to New Zealand in . a similar capacity early in the New Year.

The General Assembly.of the Presbyterian Church, sitting in Dunedin, unanimously approved the nomination of Mr. T; C. Brash, of Wellington, as Moderator-designate. Mr. Brash has a fine record in' church life, and has been a strenuous worker for youth welfare, was ordained to the eldership of St. Andrew's, Wanganui, 40 years ago. He has been a member of the Assembly for many years and chairman of several committees, and has been identified with the campaign for Christian Order. This is only the 'second occasion on which a layman has been elected Moderator-designate. Mr. Brash has a. son; the Rev. Allan Brash, in the ministry at Wanganui.

The annual conference of the Assoated Chambers of Commerce, which was concluded at Dunedin on Saturday, elected Mr. Stronach Paterson, of Wellington, president for 1943-44. Mr. Paterson was born in Dunedin, and attended the Otago Boys' High School and Otago University. He became a member of the staff of the National Mortgage and Agency Company in 1904, but four years later joined Messrs. A. S. Paterson and Co. After managing the Christchurch branch from 1913 to 1924, Mr. Paterson opened an office of the company in London in 1925^ While in London he was Government representative on the Dairy Produce Control Board. After returning to New Zealand, he became managing director of Messrs. A. S. Paterson and Co. He retired from the firm in 1940, since when he has.been interested in New Zealand's primary industries, and is closely associated with several secondary industries. He' has been a member of the executive of the Associated Chambers since 1929.
