ARGENTINE AND U.S.A.
BUENOS AIRES, October 8. ' The Foreign Office has . announced that the Ambassador to Washington, Senor Felipe Espil, has been, recalled, and has been succeeded by Senor Adrian Escoba. The "New York Times" Washington correspondent says that diplomatic circles interpret Senor Espil's recall as a sign of Argentina's displeasure at the United States' refusal to grant lendlease aid.- Senor Espil has been one of the most popular members of the Diplomatic Corps in Washington since 1931, and has advocated better understanding between Argentina and the United States.
The patriotic funds have benefited from the ball held recently in Wellington by the Women's Auxiliary . Army Corps. The National Patriotic Fund Board received a cheque for £20 from the ball committee and with it a letter stating that the contribution was made in appreciation of the work done by the board for W.A.A.C.s, both in New Zealand and .overseas. The money represented part of the profit made on the ball. A letter has been sent thanking the organisers for the donation.
