PLIGHT OF BENGAL

Sir, —We were recently informed that 6,000,000 people in the province of Bengal are threatened with starvation and that the streets of Calcutta are strewn with dead and dying. So far I have not heard any .voice raised inside or outside of Parliament that this country is prepared to do anything about this situation and to help these unfortunate famine-stricken members of the British Commonwealth. I am sure there is much that can be done now, even if it means going short ourselves to fill a freighter.—l am, etc., PTE. CHAS. R. WALKER.
