VICEREGAL. Government House, Wellington, October 7. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, attended by Captain H. G. Helmore, was present at a performance given by the Kiwi Concert Party at the Opera House this evening. October 8. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral received Mr. Hector Christie, Dominion Chief Commissioner, Boy Scouts' Association, this morning. Appreciative reference was made by the Board of Managers of the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College to the work done by the late Mr. W. S. La Trobe in the cause of technical education in New Zealand, and it was stated that the high standard now attained was largely due to the foundation laid by Mr. La Trobe, and his work in the succeeding years. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed. The meeting also passed votes of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. D. McCaskill and with the Hon. W. and Mrs. Nash in the loss of their son. The Rev. Canon E. H. Strong, of Te Awamutu, has been appointed Vicar of Fitzroy, New Plymouth, succeeding the Rev. G. W. G. Griffin, who has been appointed Vicar of Morrinsville. Mr. H. M. Christie has been reappointed to the New Zealand Wool Council as the representative of the Government. Mr. L. D. Daniell and Mr. G. C. Warren have been appointed the wool growers' representative.'* on the council. A gathering of departmental heads and executive officers of the Departments of Agriculture, Export and Internal Marketing, Lands, Valuation, and Forestry yesterday presented the Hon. J. G. Barclay with a writing set as an. expression of their appreciation of his administrative and personal qualities during his term of office as a Minister of the Crown. Opportunity was also taken of making further presentations to Mr. Barclay, one from the New Zealand Pig Marketing Association, and another very handsome gift from the co-operative distributing organisations in Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Wanganui, Canterbury, and Westland. >■
