MOTOR MECHANICS
PROPOSED TRAINING PLAN
Described by one speaker as the most important thing confronting the motor industry in New Zealand today, a plan for the improvement of motor mechanics' training was presented last night to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Motor Trade Federation. On the motion of the chairman, Mr. H. Anderson, the meeting expressed appreciation of the report on the plan, and the plan itself, and recommended the incoming committee to do all in its power to give effect to the recommendations as early as possible and to make the necessary financial arrangements involved in furthering the plan. The plan was explained to the meeting by two members of the Technical Training Committee which presented the report. They were Messrs. L. C. Arnott and J. Stewart. They said that the training system today was not adequate^io meet the future needs of the industry, and that what was proposed was not an alteration but an intensification of the present system under the control' of the federation. The comprehensive plan for the improvement of training deals with the training of apprentices in technical colleges and by employers and with the setting up of a Certification Board to evolve and administer the plan. Apprentices would be required to attend school and pass annual examinations conducted by the technical colleges, but the Certification Board would conduct the final "A" grade examination and issue certificates on behalf of the Motor Trade Federation.
