ATTACK ON KOS
NAZIS CLAIM SUCCESS
"RESISTANCE SMASHED"
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) Rec. 11 a,m. LONDON, October 5. Today's German communique says: "All sections of the German armed forces attacked the island, of Kos, in the Dodecanese, on Sunday, smashed the enemy resistance, and occupied the island in two days. Six hundred British prisoners were taken, also 2500 Badogiio troops. Forty guns, 22 aircraft, and one ship were captured. I Mopping- up of the enemy remnants continues."
There has been no confirmation of the German claim from Allied sources. Today's Middle East .communique, which usually tells of the events of the previous day, simply states that fighting on the island continues. A correspondent in Cairo, however, says that while no one wants to anticipate bad news it was thought the enemy might quickly consolidate these positions.
