RINK IMPROVING
GALLOP ON HEAVY TRACK
O.C. PALMERSTON N., This Day. One of the feature' items of yesterday's work at Awapuni was one' in which Don Quex, Tavern Light, Rink, and Screen were associated. Rink and Screen went away first with the other two in close attendance. A few yards from the post Don Quex looked a likely winner, but Rink finished smoothly to be with him as they went over the line. The going was slow, and they took 1.58 for the mile, the last three furlongs being run in 43sec. These horses are coming to hand steadily. Another interesting trial was that of Conspicuous and Hippodrome over six furlongs in 1.26 4-5. . War Credit, with a pull in the weights, appeared to be going better than Classform at the end of seven in 1.42 4-5. Te Kawiti and Rickie, picked up by Financial at the five, were given a similar task, and Te Kawiti was with Financial at the finish, his time for the seven furlongs being 1.41. Other seven furlong gallops were those of Colonel Rouge, 1.42; Bendemeer, .1.45; and Kaitoa (easily), 1.49. Gladynev and Aspen worked'nicely over a mile in 2:1. Sir Bradbury was kept to three-quarter pace over six furlongs. ■■'•■ There were several flutters over half a mile They included: Tau-Uru and ■Bushcraft, 59 l-ssec: Matawene, Egyptian Lady, and Wild Boy, 58 l-ssec; and Alethea and Sea Quex, 59sec. Leisurely and Kahuranaki sprinted five furlongs in 1.9 4-5, and Happy Ending (Bowry) and Moderate were kept to even time over three. Over four schooling hurdles, Maestro (Stevens) was too good for Vivid Night (Midwood) and Young Bill (N. Howard).
