LEAGUE CRICKET
ANNUAL MEETING
A special appeal to clubs to see that the organisation was flourishing was made by Mr. E. F. Casey (chairman of the management committee) at the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League s annual meeting. The past season, although the league's most difficult one, had been very enjoyable, and all matches had been played m a thoroughly sporting manner. Every possible latitude had been given to the clubs to enable them to field full sides each Saturday. So far as the coming season was concerned, the outlook was more promising tnan it had been for some time. Special reference was made by Mr. Casey to a former member of his club (Taxes), Captain Fred Smith, who had been killed in action at El Alamein. When in England Captain Smith had given such service to cricket that the club with which he was associated there (East Moseley) had decided to buy a ground and have it regarded as a memorial to Captain Smith. The league's officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —Patron, Mr R. A. Wright (re-elected); president, Mr. J' O'Sullivan; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. Adams, C. S, Eastwood, J. J. Furlong, J. H. James, E. Gornall, P. L. Laurenson, W. Thorpe, A. P. Smith, B. E. Mills, B. F. Whitmore, J. G. MacKenzie, W. H. Preston, D Muir, J. H.. Halligan,, E. V. Paul, J. E. Brough, C. F. Murphy, M. J. Kennedy, A. Murie, G. A. Lang, and R. W. McVilly; treasurer, Mr. S. W. Martin (re-elected); recording and assistant secretary, Mr. E. R.
