PRECEDENTS QUOTED
"I see no reason why, because a war is on and it is necessary for the Minister of Finance to go to Washington; and London in connection with the future of the country, he should give up his position as Minister of Finance," said the Minister of. Finance (Mr. Nash) at; Lower Hutt last night. ■ .. ' ~ ■ •• ,;.■■•. •..■■■■ - Mr. Nash gave precedents for, a Minister and a member of Parliament going overseas. He said that Britain's Assistant Minister of Shipping, Sir Arthur Salter, and Britain's Minister bf Supply, Mr. Llewellin, Who was another M.P., Were both permanently in Washington. Another British M.P., MrV Malcolm Macdonald, was High Commissioner in Canada. Sir Stafford Cripps, while he was an M.P., was British Ambassador in Moscow. Sir Samuel Hoare s the present British Ambassador to Spain, was a member of Parliament. All were doing War work. : Mr. Nash spoke of the important world .conferences at Which New Zealand would have to be represented in the near future.
