LOWER HUTT RESOLUTION

At a well-attended meeting of electors in Knox Hall, Lower Hutt, this week to hear an address by Mr. L. Frame, Democratic Labour, Wellington Suburbs, the following motion was carried unanimously:— "That all soldier candidates contesting seats at this General Election be reimbursed for the pay and dependants' allowances that have been stopped during the period of leave allowed them for the campaign. That this be recommended to the ingoing Government for favourable consideration." ,

Soldiers Working for Aliens. "A wartime regulation which is equivalent to law makes it compulsory for any young people, if directed to do so, to work at some other place," said Mr. W. Appleton, National candidate for Wellington Central, at Roseneath last evening. "No one can object to this provided both of the firms are British, otherwise the liberty of the subject is taken," he said. "As things stand, a young man who has fought in the Middle East can be directed to go and work for someone of alien blood. If he refuses he can be fined or imprisoned. Directions by the man-power officer may not have been given, but the fact remains that the power does exist." I
