JAP ASSASSINATION PLOT

CHUNGKING, Sept. 20.
A Japanese secret service plot to assassinate members of the United States air force in China was disclosed with the announcement that a 21----year-old Chinese was executed today. The Associated Press says that the Japanese hired him in Anhwei Province last July. They promised' him 100.000 dollars if he carried, out an elaborate plan for killing Americans and distributing provocative leaflets indicating that the killing was * the work of Chinese airmen in protest against the unequal treatment which they were receiving.
HAMBURG DEVASTATION Rec. 12.50 p.m. RUGBY, Sept..2o. The fantastic devastation wrought by the air raids in Hamburg, states a Zurich message, may be gathered from the fact that building officials estimate that if an entire goods train' was filled every day to remove, the wreckage it would still take ten years before Hamburg could be cleared for reconstruction. —8.0.
