August 19. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral presided at a meeting of the National Patriotic Fund Board this morning. Professor C. R. Knight arrived at Wellington today from Auckland. Mr. John Barr, Auckland City Librarian, is visiting Wellington.
Advice has" been received by Mr. and Mrs. W. L.« Burnet,. 59 Wellington Road, that their younger son, Jack Bruce, stationed at Malta, has been promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the R.N.Z.A.F.
Dr. C. Prendergast Knight was yesterday re-elected president of the New Zealand Gas Association for the 26th year in succession. The association is representative of all gas enterprises, municipal and other. Dr. Knight is chairman of the Wellington Gas Company.
Mr. A. H. B. Jones, formerly acting inspector for New Zealand of the Bank of New South Wales, and also former manager at Christchurch, has been appointed manager of the Melbourne branch of the bank, states a U.P.A. message from Melbourne. For the last eight years he has been manager at Perth. Mr. J. H. Spark, manager at Geelong, has been appointed manager at Fiji.
