Pilot Officer H. S. Tucker, of Palmerston North, who is normally a section leader, was with Squadron Leader Checketts in the fight. The other two sections of the squadron, led by Flight Lieutenants M. R. D. Hume and M. G. Barnett, of Wellington, remained to protect the'bombers.
