SEAMEN IN COURT

P.A. * AUCKLAND, August" 11. Two members of the crew of an American ship pleaded guilty before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., today when jointly charged with the theft of 10 gallons of white spirit, valued at £20. "This offence is regarded more seriously because white spirit is part of the hospital, supplies," said SeniorDetective Walsh. The spirit, which has a particularly high alcoholic content, is in great demand at present, especially by illicit traders in liquor, and there is a black market for it." The accused were each sentenced to a month's imprisonment, and the Magistrate ordered that they be placed on board their Bhip if it sails before expiration of the sentence.
