PIANO RECITAL.

Dorothy_ Downing, pianist, will give a recital in aid of Red Cross normal activities at Nimmo's Concert Hall on Saturday, August 14. Miss Downing, who was recently admitted a Fellow of Trinity College of Music, London, also holds an Associated Board scholarship (tenable at the Royal Academy of Music, London, after the war).

Tate Tawhai, labourer, 3tf, stated by the police to have arrived recently from New Plymouth and to have done no work since his arrival, has been sentenced to one month's hard labour by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., for being found without lawful excuse in a caravan on premises in Thorndon Quay.
