PERSONAL NOTES

VICEREGAL,

Government House, Wellington, August 10,

At Government House this morning his Excellency the Governor-General handed to Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Edmunds, of Seatoun, the Distinguished Flying Cross which was awarded to their late son, Flight Lieutenant E. G. Edmunds, R.N.Z.A.F.

Eulogistic references were made last evening by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. Andrews) and councillors of the Lower Hutt City Council to the work of Mr. H. Vagg, who for twenty-two years has been custodian of the Recreation Ground, and who, owing to ill health, has resigned. It was decided to send Mr. Vagg a cordial letter of appreciation of the great service he had rendered to the council and sports bodies, and to grant him three months' leave of absence.

Dr. L. G. Austin, of Wellington, left last night for the South Island.

Mr. J. W. Andrews, Mayor of Lower Hutt, was last evening appointed to represent the Lower Hutt City Council on the Lower Hutt Rehabilitation Committee, and Councillor W. C. Gregory to act as his deputy.

The Very Rev. A. K. Warren, Dean of Christchurch, who is representing New Zealand churches at the International Round Table of Christian Leaders at Princeton, U.S.A., is expected to return to Christchurch in time for the opening of the Diocesan Synod on October 4. Messrs. F. Hitchens (Dunedin) and R. T. Alston (Canterbury) were in Wellington today for a conference of secretaries of district manufacturers' associations and the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation. Matters relating to federation administration and local association activities were discussed at the conference.
