GREATER VIGOUR
AIR WAR ON ITALY
THREE CITIES BOMBED
LONDON, August 8.
The war against Italy is being pressed home with increased vigour. Last night Lancaster bombers took a hand in the Mediterranean battle, attacking Turin, Milan, and Genoa. Visibility was excellent.
The attacks were concentrated. An Italian communique says that the raids were on a big scale and that considerable damage was done, particularly in Turin and Milan. About two-thirds of Italy's total production is centred in the three towns ■which were raided. The Fiat works are at Turin, and the Breda armaments works at Milan, while Genoa has shipbuilding yards and factories making guns, tanks, and locomotives. The North African Air Force has been over southern Italy, attacking railway-targets. Before the night attacks, medium bombers carried out daylight raids on an airfield in southern Italy, and communications have also been attacked down the coast.
