AIR ATTACKS FEARED

JAP PROTECTIVE MEASURES Rec. 12.30 p.m. CHUNGKING, Aug. 6. Apparently fearing air raids against Japan, the Japanese are hurriedly enlarging their two main airfields in Hupeh province for attacks against potential Allied bases in China, says a Chinese military spokesman. ' ' The Japanese are also reinforcing their air forces in China. At least 80 planes recently arrived at one airfield in Anhwei province alone. ■ Unusual Japanese naval activity has been observed off the south China coast. Enemy warships are patrolling and apparently attempting to tighten the blockade against China and counter Allied submarine operations. \
